Home learning resources February 2021

This would have been an exciting week at Moonbeams, we hope that by sharing some of the fun things we would have been doing, you can give them a go at home instead!

Children's interest in garden birds/bird watching

Join in the "Flap your wings together song"  on YouTube.

If you have a printer at home, you can print off pictures of birds (if not, you could draw some pictures) and hide them around your home. Then, using your binoculars (could be made from taping together two toilet/ kitchen roll holders) go on a bird watching tour of your home, and see how many birds you can find together.

Create a tally chart to see how many birds fly past your window/ land in your garden- this is a great opportunity for practising our counting skills!

Chinese New Year 12th February

It is a tradition to wear red on Chinese New Year, as it symbolises good luck, fortune and health. Why not see if your child can pick their own clothes to wear today? See if they are able to find any red items to wear.

Take a look at CBeebies "Celebrating Chinese New Year"

Experiment with creating Chinese symbols

Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Day (Tuesday 16th February)

Have a ‘pancake flipping competition’ using playdough pancakes and a small frying pan, see how high you can flip it and if you can catch it again! You can find a simple playdough recipe here- https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/playdough-recipe

Create a fruity face on your pancake, can you add the eyes, nose, mouth, you could even add some hair?

Join in singing the  "Pancake Song"

Some things to be practising over the week and during half term:

Putting on your socks and shoes independently

The "up and over" manoeuvre when putting your coat on (here is a link to a short video to show you the technique we use -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLGSvXVltRc )

Having a go at doing up the zip to your jumper/coat
